Organic Geochemistry of Crude Oils from the Kohat Basin, Pakistan

The crude oils from the reservoirs of Mela-01 and Mela-04 wells located in Kohat Basin, Pakistan, were geochemically analyzed to evaluate origin, depositional conditions, thermal maturity rock units possible facies which these sourced. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was performed on samples obtain biomarker non-biomarker parameters. Analyzed parameters, including carbon preference index (CPI), terrigenous aquatic ratio (TAR), isoprenoids pristane phytane (Pr/Ph), steranes dibenzothiophene/phenanthrene (DBT/P) aromatic compounds, utilized present study achieve objectives. Most parameters suggest a mixed source organic matter (marine/terrestrial) with sub-oxic conditions rocks for oil studied Mela oilfield, Basin. Furthermore, CPI different such as C29 S/S+R, ββ/αα+ββ), moretane hopane (M29/C30H), pentacyclic terpanes C27 (Ts/Ts+Tm), H32 (S/S+R) hopanes, methylphenanthrene (MPI) indicate that have originated thermally mature falling window. As Basin has multiple contributes major petroleum production country, investigations reveal its okthe generated by strata deposited marine conditions. this suggests stratum would also been produced unexplored surrounding areas Tirah, Orakzai, Bannu Depression.
